MEDIA: Its Role and Present condition

What is Media?

Media consists of the tools that are used to provide information and data. There are two types of media and these are print media and digital media. Most of the well-known forms of media are newspaper, TV and internet.

Many social platforms are also working as media like twitter, so the range of media is not limited and its sources are limitless like books, magazines, website, mobile apps etc. Every section of society is apprised by the media.


Media disseminate the policies and decisions of government to citizens so that everyone can have their own opinions regarding government actions. 





Nowadays Media 

I was watching a debate on the issue of CAA and NRC, I thought it would help me to learn something about the issue that what is wrong and right. After ten minutes, I saw one side swayed over the another and after some time, they brought a new issue related to religion and a new clamour started. The debate was biased, the anchor was also biased, I think the anchor should only lead the debate except making terse on one side. 


Mostly, every government seems to sway over media, as it helps them to disseminate their positive side. And the same thing is going on nowadays also. There so many important issues regarding the nation and the citizens but there are very few debates related to that. India stands 112 out of 152 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI), there is no debate regarding poverty that how it can be eradicated, why so much rise in unemployment. Except that there are religious or community-based debates. 


Recently, EIA draft has been made public and people flaked government showing great concerns related to the environment but the government had banned a website which was raising voice against the EIA, main media did not acquaint people about that.


It is a well-known statement that "media is a puppet of the person in power".

Now, Father and mother, discussing at home that "People should take care of monkey's, they should not allow them to go near well". Well, it seems that the headlines, comments of the news channels are so impressive and attractive that people start discussing upon them. All this is done to increase TRP (Television Rating Point).

Nowadays, media content is based on to attract more and more audiences. Media assert only on content, it is useful or not it does not matter, most of the journalists just trying to finish their time slot with any of the content. 

Today's Journalism on the main media stream is business and TRP is required to be successful in the field.


Earlier, Journalism was considered as patriotism as they used to work hard and used to disseminate true information and knowledge, with altruism.

India's Degrading Democracy and Freedom

 Recently, the Freedom House US based organisation has decreased the status of India from "free country" to "partly free". And also the rank of India has been slipped to 53rd  position in the latest democracy index by Economic Intelligence Unit. Also V-DEM institute regarded India as "electoral autocracy". Explained: India-China Border issue

There are always some kind of conflicts between India and China. Both the countries are powerful in each and every category: economically strong; strong defence system; good resources; developed technology and many more. What is the issue?
